Senior School

Message from Senior School

As your Senior School Principal I will focus on several key areas, including:

  • Teaching and Learning. This will be an opportunity to see learners’ growth, semester by semester and year by year. Data driven practices will be used to monitor progress and ensure learners are excelling and achieving their personal best across the curriculum. There will also be a focus on NAPLAN growth data and the Stage 6 RAP analysis to delve into our HSC results and identify areas for improvement, alongside the various Heads and Deputy within the school. There will also be opportunities to look further into extra-curricular programs to ensure our learners get further opportunities to become the leaders of tomorrow.
  • Educator Growth and Efficacy. I believe that the greatest asset within schools are our educators and collaboration is the key to unlocking this asset. The continuation of professional learning communities and collaboration amongst the staff will continue and remain a focal point. Feedback and educator self-reflection will see continued growth in this area inshallah.
  • Islamic ethos. We have begun liaising with the CITE (Centre of Islamic Thought and Education) team at the University of South Australia. Professor Abdullah and brothers, Dylan Chown and Nadeem Memon, are inspirational and instrumental in the implementation of Islamic Pedagogy in schools. I have fortunately worked alongside the team for over 5 years and alhumdillah, seen how the Islamic ethos can permeate throughout all facets of the school, from curriculum to wellbeing, welfare, school policies, uniforms and aesthetics. This has the power to be catalyst for further change in terms of culture and the Islamic identity here at Unity.

The executive team have started discussions into the establishment of a Parent Council. We are in the process of writing a constitution and will shortly call for nominations for various positions. I am committed to open collaboration with parents and have an open-door policy to address concerns, discuss ideas and fundraise for various initiatives for the school, the wider community and abroad.

Umrah for our students, a spiritual journey like no other, is being planned for and inshallah, a Khidmah expedition to Cambodia for the Alumni that will complement our work on Islamic Pedagogy and emulating prophetic character on serving humanity are both being planned for.

I look forward to working collaboratively alongside our Unity family: students, staff, parents and the board, well into the future, to ensure our school continues to prosper inshallah.

Mr Sam Halbouni
