Public Speaking

Public Speaking

Unity Grammar encourages all our students to become actively involved in public speaking. Public speaking allows our students to enhance their communication skills, improve their confidence in speaking in a social environment, motivate our students to speak persuasively and learn to capture the audience’s attention.

Within the classroom we also encourage our students to take advantage of any public speaking opportunities and externally against students from other schools. For those students who wish to challenge themselves further, we encourage our students to enter into a range of competitions. Some of these include the United Nations ‘Speak for the Planet’ and Islamic Schools network competitions. Our students have been very successful in these competitions, with both our girls and boys having won their respective age divisions.

In 2018 after a heated competition at the annual Inter-School Public Speaking Competition in September, our students displayed their true Unity talent by winning 3 out of 4 divisions. After weeks of hard work, their efforts came to fruition, impressing the audience with their passion, eloquence and tenacity. Students spoke on a wide range of topics from issues related to Australia Day to the narrative of refugees. Our students showcase themselves as Australia’s future leaders and showed integrity, vision and commitment throughout the competition.
