Osman Karolia has been working in Schools for 23 Years, initially in the public system and for the last 21 Years in the Islamic School’s sector. Osman spent 14 Years as a classroom teacher specialising in the humanities and enjoyed tremendous success at achieving Band 6 results for his students in non-selective comprehensive classes particularly in Legal Studies and Business Studies. Osman has also worked as a marker of the HSC in Business Studies, Legal Studies, Economics and Geography. Osman’s philosophy has always been that all students regardless of ability can achieve and he has always thrived at working with disadvantaged students.
Osman is passionate about extracurricular programs including community service, leadership, volunteering, interfaith exchanges, humanitarian work and sports. Osman has led School trips to Singapore, Malaysia and the UAE. He led the first Umrah pilgrimage to Saudi Arabia by a School group from Australia in 1998 which is also regarded as the first such visit by any School from a western country. He has used this knowledge and experience to assist other Schools in Australia as well as the U.K. and South Africa to make similar trips.
Osman’s extensive knowledge of School policies, curriculum and pedagogy has led him to supervise numerous K-12 registrations in many Schools as well as coordinate the accreditation and professional development of teachers. He has held numerous positions including careers advisor, Boy’s Secondary School Coordinator, Faculty Head (HSIE), Director of Studies, International Baccalaureate Director (Diploma and Middle Years Program), Deputy Principal and two stints at principal in other Schools. Osman is co-founder of the Islamic Schools Association of Australia and is the current national secretary where he enjoys advocating on behalf of the Islamic School’s sector.
In his current role as Head of Senior School at Unity Grammar his responsibilities include managing the educational, welfare and co-curricular programs of the senior students. This includes managing the professional development of the teachers, enhancing the quality of teaching and learning, careers counselling and post School pathways (cadetships/traineeships/tertiary study).
